Hydes Helles hits taps: new Bavarian-style lager arrives in Hydes pubs

Hydes Brewery has launched Hydes Helles, a new addition to its expanding portfolio.
The carefully crafted Helles-style lager, with a sessionable 3.4% ABV, marks a fresh chapter for the Salford-based brewery as it embraces contemporary drinking trends while honouring its longstanding brewing heritage.
Hydes Helles offers a crisp, clean and refreshing taste experience that is true to the classic Bavarian Helles style. Light golden in colour with delicate malt sweetness and subtle hop bitterness, it delivers an approachable lager that appeals to both enthusiasts and those seeking a lighter, easy-drinking beer. The 3.4% ABV makes it perfectly suited for social occasions where drinkers want flavour without the heavier alcohol content.
The introduction of Hydes Helles reflects the brewery’s commitment to evolving its brand and product range to meet changing consumer preferences in the dynamic beer market. Hydes aims to capture the shift towards lighter, lower alcohol beers by offering its first-ever authentic Helles lager brewed with the same care and expertise the brewery is known for.
Adam Mayers, Managing Director of Hydes Brewery, explained the significance of the launch: “Hydes Helles represents an exciting step forward for us as we modernise our brand and respond to the evolving tastes of our customers. While we have a rich heritage rooted in traditional ales, we recognise the importance of diversifying our range to include styles that resonate with today’s beer drinkers.
“The Helles lager style is perfect for those who appreciate a balanced, refreshing beer that works for a wide range of occasions, especially in the warmer months. By introducing Hydes Helles, we are broadening our appeal and demonstrating our commitment to innovation without losing sight of the quality and craftsmanship that defines us.”
Hydes Helles is now available across Hydes’ pub estate, positioning it as a key offering for the summer season. The addition of Helles forms part of Hydes’ wider strategy to diversify its portfolio with fresh and modern beer styles, complementing its existing range of award-winning ales and seasonal brews.
This new lager has a contemporary visual identity that blends Hydes’ classic brand elements with modern design cues, ensuring Hydes Helles stands out on tap and shelves. The brewery hopes this fresh look, combined with the lager’s approachable flavour profile, will attract a broad audience, from loyal Hydes customers to new beer drinkers discovering the brand for the first time.
Adam Mayers, added: “As the market continues to shift towards lighter, more sessionable options, Hydes Helles positions us at the forefront of this trend while reinforcing our reputation for producing high-quality, flavoursome beers. The launch signals Hydes’ confidence in balancing tradition with innovation.”
Founded in 1863, Hydes brews in Media City, Salford, and supplies cask ales and craft beers to wholesalers, pub companies, and its own estate of more than 40 pubs across the North West and North Wales.
