From First Home to Home Cooked Favourites, Popular Local Chef Kristian Teams up with the Star Inn Wick for Delicious New Midweek Menu

Popular local Chef Kristian Rollason has extended his hours at the Star Inn, Wick in the Vale of Glamorgan following huge success with his gourmet Sunday Lunches which have been up and running (and mostly sold out) since last Summer – although for Kris, it feels like going home, as he lives several doors down and it’s where he started his hospitality career over 15 years ago.

Kristian took the plunge and teamed up with pub owner Emily back last year to trial his new Sunday lunch menus, which have gone down so well the pub has often been booked weeks in advance, so the duo have decided to collaborate full time and recently launched their new midweek menus, which feature local, seasonal food with everything home cooked from scratch.

So far, midweek meals have proved just as successful as the weekends, with the duo’s Chinese New Year food event sold out and going down a storm last weekend – so the Need to See IT Team  thought we’d pop down and check out their Wednesday Pie and a Pint Night for just £14.50 per person – and all we can say is we are glad we did!

We really enjoyed the proper homemade pies – and we mean PIES, not just a pastry lid – the portions are generous and the flavours were incredible.  Like everything at the Star, because it’s all homemade, menus vary from week to week, but there was a wide choice available, with traditional options like Chicken and Leek – and more unusual options like the absolutely delicious Salmon, Prawn and Cod pie – made properly with fresh fish from the fishmongers and presented beautifully.

There’s just no comparison between a home made proper pie and the frozen stuff served by chain pubs and it’s just refreshing to see that some pubs are still doing proper, delicious food, presenting it beautifully and serving it in a friendly, warm setting with real log fires and a smile!

Accompanied by seasonal vegetables and Kristian’s signature triple cooked chips, which are hand cut and cooked on the premises, this was truly a treat and we enjoyed every mouthful.  So much so, we’ve already booked our spot for next week.

We can’t wait to go again – and cannot recommend it highly enough!

To book, call 01656 890 080.  You can see the latest weekly menus on the pub’s Facebook Page
