Café hopping in Wales: Discover the best spots to visit

Wales is full of beautiful scenery, lovely people and delicious food. In 2022, British residents took 8.71 million overnight trips to Wales with 44% for a holiday.

After a busy day sightseeing and exploring, cafes can be a welcome break – especially if the coffee and cakes are delicious! Here are some spots you should visit next time you are in Wales.

Cardiff’s coffee culture

If you are exploring the heart of Cardiff, rest your feet at 200 Degrees. This café roasts its own beans, so as well as being able to watch, the smell will stay with you as a welcome memory. If you love the coffee you can always take a bag home with you to enjoy.

Cardiff Castle is a must-see as is Pettigrew Tea Rooms which are conveniently located next door. The windows give glimpses of the historic castle as well as Bute Park next door. Why not take a stroll after you have devoured a delicious afternoon tea?

Coastal cafes with a view

The Welsh coast is packed with breathtaking views across the Irish Sea. Like the rest of the UK, Welsh weather can be unpredictable, so finding shelter in a café is recommended. If you are driving around Wales, it is important to get your car serviced before you go. For ease, you could always buy tyres online to save yourself a job in the run-up to your holiday.

The Coastal Way is a challenge you may want to set yourself. Running 870 miles hugging the shore, there are plenty of sights to take in. Make sure you stop at Crwst in Cardigan. If you are there early enough, opt for their full Welsh breakfast – that will set you up right for a day of adventuring.

Quaint village cafes

Snowdonia may spring to mind when you picture Wales with its looming mountains, dramatic rockfaces and snowy caps. To fully enjoy the area, stop in at Beddgelert. Packed full of attractions, you could easily spend a week there and still run out of time to do everything on your list.

Caffi Colwyn is set in the heart of Beddgelert and it is easy to see why it is popular. If all the tables are full, don’t be discouraged and try again on a different day. The cakes are well worth it and excellent value for money.

If you are looking for a trip to the coast, then head to The Big Rock Café in Porthmadog. With daily baked bread and unique cakes, there is a treat for every palate and taste. If the weather allows, you can always have a stroll along the seafront to round off your day.
